What's happening
Deal-making today is aimed at the technology layer as much as at agencies and carriers. A telecom software company paid $340 mn for the insurance platform EIS, and other buyers picked up insurtech firms such as CT InsureTech and, in a smaller move, Azimut.ai. Alongside the purchases, new capital vehicles and product launches appeared, and AI features keep turning up inside the claims and underwriting stories.
Why it matters
When a company from outside insurance buys core-system software, it signals that the tools insurers run on are seen as valuable, and that independent vendors may be harder to find. Carriers that depend on these platforms should watch for changes in ownership, pricing and product direction. The next thing to watch is whether other large software groups follow, and whether the acquired products stay open to every customer.
